What is an orthopedic shoe?

 

We follow the guidelines of the Pedorthic Association of Canada as it pertains to orthopedic shoes, however your insurance company may have a different definition as per your policy. Always call and ask them what type of orthopedic shoes they cover.

There are several types of footwear that you may have coverage for so please check with your plan to be sure.

  • Off the shelf or stock item orthopedic shoes
  • Modified orthopedic shoes (modifications to the shoes are permanent)
  • Custom made shoes (we do not carry this)
Can you bill directly for orthopedic shoes?

 

Some insurance companies and plans allow us to bill them directly. It is best to call your insurance company to ask specific details of your plan.

How do I know which shoes I’m covered for?

 

Every insurance company and every policy has a different guideline. While one shoe may be covered by one policy that same shoe may be rejected by another. Please be sure to ask your insurance company exactly the make and model you are prescribed to see if it is eligible.

Why are orthopaedic shoes so expensive?

 

Orthopaedic shoes are designed for structure and stability. They have firm heel counters and good torsional stability. Orthopedic shoes also come in at least 3 widths and can accommodate larger sizes as well.

Which style are you?

 

We carry a wide range of footwear in many widths to accommodate fit issues. Once we assess you, we can advise on the proper footwear. We carry orthopedic shoes, comfort shoes, sandals and running shoes. We can size you up to 6E width in some brands and we have a wide variety of wide fitting footwear.

Do you have a wide foot?

 

If you have trouble finding shoes that fit, give us a call. We can access shoes up to 6E widths that actually look pretty decent! We may not have every width in stock but if you book in for a fitting appointment we can measure your feet and shoe you some options that we can order.
