Orthotics

What is the difference between 3D and traditional orthotics?

3D printing is brand new technology and has hit the manufacturing industry by storm. The orthotics are lightweight, super comfortable and cushiony. 3D material starts as a powder and then prints into your orthotic. Traditional orthotics are made from plastic - so 3D orthotics are more sustainable and reduce the impact of single use plastic. That makes us very happy.

Who can benefit from an orthotic insert?

All ages can benefit from an orthotic if they are recommended and required. Custome orthotics can help with foot pain, calluses, and ulcers. A thorough assessment can help determine if a foot orthotics will assist you.

What should I wear to my assessment?

If possible it is best to wear comfortable clothes that can be rolled up past your knees so that the clinician can see how your knee, ankle, and feet move as you walk.

What can I expect during my assessment?

The clinician will take a thorough medical history including current symptoms, pain level and previous injuries, then they perform a gait analysis where they watch you walk and assess the movement of your lower limbs. The clinician will also evaluate your range of motion, perform strength testing or functional testing, and finally give their recommendations/clinical impressions as to the cause of your discomfort and the best treatment.

How long is my first appointment?

An assessment typically takes around 45 minutes to an hour.

Are Custom Foot Orthotics covered by my insurance?

Most plans cover Custom Foot Orthotics in part or in full. It is best to call your insurance company to find out specific details. We provide direct billing for Greenshield.

How long will my pick up appointment take?

The pick up/ fitting appointment typically takes 15-30 minutes. This includes fitting your footwear, orthotics, and education regarding orthotic break in and compression sock/brace care.

What is the break in process for orthotics?

The break in process can take up to two weeks of increasingly gradual wear. Start by wearing your orthotic for one hour the first day then increasing by an hour each day until you are able to wear them for a full day. If you are having pain or the orthotic does not feel comfortable after that two week period, call to book a follow up appointment and we will make minor adjustments to make the orthotics more comfortable.

Help! My orthotics squeak when I walk!

Try putting baby powder to the underside of the orthotic and placing it back into the shoe. If you find that the baby powder does not help, make an appointment and we can see what is causing the noise. It is usually a quick and easy fix!

Are you able to direct bill my insurance for my orthotics?

Some insurance companies and plans allow us to bill them directly. It is best to call your insurance company to ask specific details of your plan. We provide direct billing for Greenshield.

How much do custom orthotics cost?

Our clinic has three tiers of custom orthotics:

Standard $400

Classic $500

Premium $650

How long does the orthotic take to make?

Custom orthotics typically take about 2 weeks to make.

How long do orthotics last?

The shell, which is the hard plastic part, has a lifetime warranty against cracking but the arch does compress over time with use. How quickly that happens can depend on your height, weight and what you are using the orthotic for. A pair of orthotics lasts between 16 months to 2 years. The top cover tends to break down faster but can be refurbished for a $50 plus tax fee.

Can you check my coverage?

We do not have access to any of your private plan information. We do recommend calling your insurance company to determine the proper information.
